Thoughts on the New Year

As this was actually our first year having some breathing space from our business AND some animal space from the demands of our livestock (our does are VERY low on milk), we actually got to have a really fun holiday. We went down to visit family and I even made a TRADITIONAL AND AUTHENTIC fruitcake that was very delicious.

It was a little nerve racking allowing the 2nd phase of waiting THREE WHOLE weeks to try it as it went through it's glaze/fermentation with the brandy but WELL worth it. This will become a new tradition in our home.

For New Years we always do a game day. We have what our family calls (tray food) and snack all day long as we play games. Our menu included french toast casserole and fruit for breakfast and honey mustard wings, bacon wrapped dates (or as my children call them "bacon date candy"), jalapeno poppers, spinach sweet potato greens dip, and our very favorite "scoop dip" to name a few of the lunch snacks, and then we rounded it all out with Carob Chip (for everyone under 12) and Chocolate Chip Cookies along with Cheesecake w/ Cherry topping at the end of the evening.

We played Yahtzee, skip bo, and did karaoke. In the evening when the games were over we did a ritual that our family enjoys every year, we made a Yule log. My son cut it and we tied our dreams for the New year to it. Today, we will bury it in the yard (an alternative is to burn it) and reflect on those hopes and dreams.

If you have missed us you will be happy to learn that we are now back "online". Our store has been revamped and is now ready to take orders. Our facebook page and even this website have now been updated and we are taking on new processing customers. Hopefully, you won't forget us this new year, and will keep our family and business in your hearts and minds, and remember us when you want THE BEST of local foods.

Over the past few months we have been processing ALOT and we now have ground goat available in our online store. Soon, we hope to add to the meat selection, so keep checking back.

Depending on how our garden goes for the next go round of harvesting we might even be updating with some more produce. Right now we have some fresh turmeric available. We also recently harvested over 80lbs of sweet potatoes! We are continuing to improve upon our gardening techniques and have now been using the moon cycle planting method. We are quite pleased thus far.

And, I plan on adding lots of recipes this year to our all ready extensive recipe section on our website!

We hope this year is filled with joy, fun, family, and LOTS of local products for you and yours!
